Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney freshman golfer Sara Wissing shot a 54-hole total of 246 to finish in 17th place at the 2009 Central Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The three-day tournament was played at the par 72 Westward Ho Country Club. The top three teams and the top three individuals on a non-qualifying team advance to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Findlay, Ohio.
After efforts of 88 and 79 over the first two rounds, Wissing (Hastings) pared the ninth hole and then pared every hole on the back nine to again shoot a 79. For the tournament, she had 30 pars and two birdies.
Upper Iowa's Rochelle Schmidt earned medalist honors with a four over par 220 (69-76-75). Anne Martin of Concordia-St. Paul was runner up at a 225.
In the team race, Upper Iowa easily outdistanced the nine team field with a 930. Concordia-St. Paul (947) and tourney host Augustana (965) were second and third, respectively, and will also be advancing to the NCAA's.
The three individuals making it to Findlay are Leah Grozdanich of Minnesota State (237), Kalli Stanhope of Montana State-Billings (238) and Minnesota State's Jaymie Halverson (239).
