Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team won its 12th straight match and will try and win its third straight RMAC Tournament title Saturday morning in Albuquerque, N.M.
The top-seeded Lopers (15-5), who went unbeaten against RMAC foes during the regular season and thus got a first round bye, beat fifth-seed Metro State,
5-2, on Friday afternoon in the semifinals.
Second-seed Mesa State beat third-seed Western New Mexico, 6-1, in the other semifinal match.
Earlier this year in Denver, UNK beat the Mavericks by a 7-2 score. They will play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA's.
On the men's side, the third-seeded Lopers (15-9) easily beat Colorado State-Pueblo this morning,
8-1. UNK then battled second-seed Mesa State before losing 5-4.
The match came down to No. 4 singles where Grand Island freshman
John Steinke lost in a third set tie breaker, 7-5. Earlier this year in Denver, Mesa nipped the Lopers by a 6-3 score.
It's likely UNK will receive an at-large berth to the NCAA's, which will be announced next week.
