Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams each beat RMAC rivals Colorado Christian, Colorado State-Pueblo and Montana State-Billings this weekend in Montana.

The Loper women improved to 10-6 on the year after rolling past CCU, 7-2, and Pueblo, 9-0, on Friday and then beating the host Yellowjackets, 7-2, Saturday. MSUB is an affiliate member of the RMAC in tennis.

On the men's side, the Lopers (11-5) had an easy time with Christian, 9-0, and Pueblo, 8-1, but needed three singles wins to slip past Billings, 5-4, on Saturday.

Ranked second in the Central Region, the UNK men faced a 'Jackets squad ranked sixth. UNK led 2-1 after doubles only to see Billings win at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles.

In two key battles, sixth-ranked Navin Marimuthu got past the Lopers fifth-ranked Josh Raymond (3-6, 6-0, 10-3) in the top spot while 10th-ranked Alonso Leon beat Indian freshman Yeswanth Nadella (6-1, 7-6), who is ranked seventh in the region.

UNK also lost a third set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles but sophomores John Steinke (Grand island) and Kyle Conzemius (Lincoln Pius), and true freshman Josh Smith (Independence, Mo.), each won in straight sets to secure the dual win.

The other Kearney wins came over a Pueblo team ranked seventh in the region and a CCU Cougars team that is ninth.
