Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams finished up non-conference action last week by beating Hastings College and Emporia State on the road.
The Loper men improve to 9-7 after a pair of 8-1 victories while the UNK women are now 8-6 after blanking the Broncos and slipping past the Hornets, 5-4. A make-up date at Truman State was rained out again and is canceled for good.
At Hastings on March 28th, the Loper men
won 8-6 at both No. 1 (
Josh Raymond &
Yeswanth Nadella) and No. 2 (
John Steinke &
Arin Enge) doubles.
Nadella then won a third set tiebreaker to win at No. 2 singles with junior
Kyle Conzemius getting past Chris Ondrey in the sixth spot (6-3, 7-5).
Two days later
at Emporia, UNK didn't allow more than five points in any doubles match and won at No. 1, 2 and 5 singles to secure the dual victory.
Freshman
Jack Nicholson did got three sets to win in the fourth spot (3-6, 6-1, 11-9) with Conzemius not being as fortunate, falling to Christian Lollar (3-6, 6-4, 13-11).
The women's victory over the Hornets was noteworthy since ESU is defending MIAA champions. UNK is now 1-3 in duals that finish in a
5-4 score.
Kearney led 2-1 after doubles and won at No. 4, 6 and 3 singles to reach five points. Sophomore
Britni Norfolk shut out her opponent in the fourth spot with sophomore
