Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's tennis team split a pair of duals this past weekend, blanking Nebraska Wesleyan,
9-0, in Grand Island and falling to a tough Alabama-Huntsville squad,
9-0, in Iowa.
Including the fall, the Lopers are now 4-2 on the season.
Against the Prairie Wolves, UNK won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 8-0 scores. Senior
John Steinke (Grand Island), junior
Yeswanth Nadella (India) and freshman Daniel Faria (Portugal) then each won a singles set by a 6-0 score.
The UAH Chargers will be one of the toughest teams UNK sees this season. The nationally-ranked squad from the Gulf South Conference won 8-3 and 8-4 in the top two doubles spots and then won several close singles matches.
Steinke managed to win his second set, 6-3, at No. 2 singles but dropped the third. Junior
Revel Yehezkia (Indonesia), at No. 4 singles, lost in three sets as well with Faria and senior
Arin Enge (Olathe, Kans.) both losing sets by 7-5 scores.
UNK is off until the end of the next week when it has three home matches in three straight days.
