Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams head to Springfield, Mo., this weekend for the 2013 MIAA Tournament.
The thee-day event will be held Friday through Sunday at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
The fourth-seeded men (16-8, 2-4) take on fifth-seed Truman State Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the winner moving on to face top-seed NW Missouri State on Saturday at nine. Earlier this spring, UNK beat TSU in Missouri, 6-3, while falling to the Bearcats, 9-0, in Grand Island.
The championship is slated for Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with the tournament winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA's. Third and fifth place match will be held as well.
On the women's side,
fifth-seed UNK (18-6, 6-4) takes on the fourth-seeded Northwest at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The winner will face either top-seed SW Baptist or eighth-seed Fort Hays State on Saturday at one.
UNK lost to Northwest, 6-3, in Grand Island back in early March. The Lopers fell to SBU, 7-2 the next weekend while not facing the Tigers this spring due to weather.
The women's championship is set for Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Third, fifth and seventh place matches will be held as well.
