Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The 17th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies scored three goals in the final eight minutes to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 5-1, Saturday evening in Warrensburg.
Â
UCM, two-time defending MIAA champions, improves to 4-1-1 (2-0 MIAA) while Kearney drops to 2-4 (0-2).
Â
After tying the Jennies 1-1 last year at Cope Stadium, UNK seemingly had another knotted up game when a shot by sophomore
Kristyn Otter (Millard North) hit underneath the crossbar and went across the goal line. Â
However, the officials didn't see it that way and it remained a 2-1 UCM lead.
Â
Then, in a two minute span (82nd-84th), the Jennies scored three times, two coming from true freshman Hannah Moran. She finished with a hat trick as she converted on a penalty kick in the first half.
Â
Sophomore
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion) recorded UNK's goal on a direct kick from about 25 yards out in the 73rd minute. She was one of nine different Lopers who took a shot on the night. Showing the tight game, Kearney took 11 shots to UCM's 13 .
Â
Defensively, North Platte freshman keeper Jackie Paloucek allowed one goal and had three saves in 29 minutes of work.
Â
"We are playing well enough for long stretches; we just need to put 90 minutes together and the results will start coming," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "We got a little unlucky not to get out of there with a possible tie but the ref didn't see Otter's ball go in. Â We then came a part in the last five minutes and that's something that we can't do."
Â
UNK hosts Hastings College (Wednesday) and Missouri Southern State (Sunday) next week.
