Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams swept the Lindenwood Lions Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo., giving head coach
Jake Saulsbury his 200th career win.
The 33rd-ranked Loper men moved to 11-1 (1-0) with a
6-3 win over the Lions while the UNK women (12-2), ranked 5th in the Central Region, bested LWU by an
8-1 score.
In his sixth season as head coach, Saulsbury now has a 201-83 record, breaking down to a 71% winning percentage. He is 103-39 on the women's side and 98-44 in men's duals.
Moving to 3-1 in MIAA action, the Loper women allowed just nine total points in doubles. Kearney is now 35-7 in doubles this dual season.
In singles, sophomore
Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) rallied for a win in the second position (3-6, 6-1, 10-4) with seniors
Kristin Weems (No. 1/6-2, 6-0) and
Kari Emery (No. 6/6-1, 6-0) dominant in victory. Finally, junior
Paula Jimenez (Spain) secured the dual win with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
Things were a bit tougher for the UNK men as the Lions (2-4), ranked 10th in the region, won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and fell by a 9-8 (5) score at No. 1 doubles. Colorado sophomore Justin Ngyuen and Egyptian sophomore
Mohab El Zanaty did roll in the third spot, 8-2, to give the Lopers a 2-1 lead.
UNK secured the dual when Minnesota freshman
Joey Richards got past Filip Bogic by a 6-2, 7-6 (9) score. Both are ranked in the Central Region top 14.
Finally, Kearney was especially dominant between 4-6 singles, allowing only 14 total points.
The Lopers stay on the road for Spring Break to face the Delta State Fighting Okra (March 22nd) and the Mississippi College Choctaws (March 24th).
