Senior Kristin Weems
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams finished off the 2014-15 regular season in style, both sweeping Doane College, 9-0, Monday evening at Harmon Park.

Both the Loper women (20-5) and men (19-3) have now tied the school record for dual wins in a season. The 2010-11 UNK men also won 19 times while last year's women's squad went 20-8.

On "Senior Day", the Lopers honored Jack Nicholson (England), Kari Emery (Tucson, Ariz.) and Kristin Weems (Arlington, Texas) as well as graduate assistant coach John Steinke and Emily Fink (Papillion).

The 27th-ranked Loper men rolled past the Tigers (6-5) as they allowed just four points in doubles. UNK is now 48-15 in doubles this year, using 13 different pairings along the way.

Playing at No. 4 singles, Nicholson ran his record to 15-2 thanks to a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Tyler Johnson. Next, sophomore Justin Ngyuen (Louisville, Colo.) won 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth spot with sophomore Mohab El Zanaty (Egypt) now a team-best 21-1 after a 6-2,6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.

The Kearney women were even more dominant against a Tigers squad that is now 2-9. UNK allowed just three doubles points and won four singles matches (4-6) by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

That foursome included Emery, who is now 17-5, with the regionally-ranked Weems picking up win number 10 thanks to a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Tia Norris.

UNK heads to Springfield, Mo., this weekend for the MIAA Tournament. Pairings for the event will be released later this week.
