Kearney, Neb. – Freshman
Camryn Parnell won a third-set tie breaker, 6-4, at No. 5 singles to help the Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team secure a dual win over Northwest Missouri State,
6-3, Sunday night at Harmon Park.
The 21st-ranked Loper men weren't as fortunate as they lost four close matches in a
6-3 setback to the 16th-ranked Bearcats.
Ranked sixth in the Central Region, the Loper women (12-4, 4-2) led 2-1 after doubles and then moved ahead 4-3 after Papillion sophomore
Emma Neil rolled to another straight sets victory, 6-1 & 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Prior to Neil's team-best 15th singles win, Spanish senior
Paula Jimenez rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win in the third spot in the order.
Northwest (7-9, 3-1), ranked eighth in the Central, didn't go quietly as Andrea Gallardo won her second set against Parnell to tie that match up. One court over, Vilune Sestokaite won her first set against sophomore
Jadyn Trimble (Kearney H.S.) at No. 6 singles.
Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the pivotal third set. Gallardo came back to make things interesting, eventually trailing 5-4. By this time, Trimble had tied her match up.
Finally, Parnell closes out Gallardo to give UNK the dual. Trimble then bested Sestokaite, 10-5, in another tiebreaker.
On the men's side, the Lopers (12-2, 0-2) lost 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Four of the singles matches went to three sets with the Bearcats (13-2, 3-0) taking three of them.
Minnesota sophomore
Joey Richards did win at No.4 singles over Mauro Tete, 7-6 (2) & 6-4, with Egyptian sophomore
Georges Wakim victorious over Fin Glowick a spot lower in the lineup, 6-2, 3-6 & 10-7.
A tough stretch of duals continues as Kearney heads to Washburn Tuesday afternoon.
