Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of the 2019 MIAA Championships in Mayetta, Kan.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 72 Firekeeper Golf Course. Ten teams are taking part with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional May 6-8 in Muskogee, Okla.

The Lopers, ranked ninth in the Central Region, fired a 321 to be front of regionally-ranked Lindenwood (324) and three others. Nationally-ranked Northeastern State (300) leads with 44th-ranked Central Missouri a close second (304) and Missouri Western State third (313).

Omaha sophomore Nia Station is currently leading UNK as she had two birdies and parred the last five holes to fire a 6-over 78 (39-39). She is tied for ninth with NSU freshman Rosie Klausner in the overall lead thanks to a 1-under 71.

Next, California senior Danielle Dickerson is tied for 17th (80) with Ogallala senior Maaika Mestl three spots back (81). Mestl parred seven holes on the front nine with Dickerson having six pars on the back nine.

Finally, Puerto Rico freshman Faviola Gonzalez had two birdies on the back nine to shoot an 82 and be tied for 27th with Doniphan junior Brandi Lemek tied for 30th with an 83. She parred four holes on both the front and back nine.
