10/15/2021 9:48:00 AM

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head women's golf coach Shawn Rodehorst announced today that Colombian Sofia Laserna Murra will join the Lopers next semester.

She becomes UNK's fourth-ever international player, following Canadians Carla Dobchuk and Deana Sterling in the early 2000's and current Colombian freshman Juliana Botero Molina. Dobchuk and Sterling both earned All-American honors during their careers with Molina having already etched her name into the Loper record books.

Murra is from Ibague, a town of half million people located in western Colombia. She has played in multiple national and international tournaments including the 2017 U.S. Kids Golf Championships at Pine Needles G.C. in North Carolina. Competing against an international field in the 13-year old division, she turned in a 259 over 54 holes.

She graduates from San Bonifacio de las Lanzas this December and plans on majoring in business at UNK.

The Lopers finish up its fall slate early next week with the annual Midwest Classic in Warrensburg, Mo. The spring season begins in March 2022.
