Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head soccer coach Chloe Roberts announced today that New Jersey native Angelina Iocca will join the Lopers in the fall.

She is the fourth newcomer to date with the others being keeper Rainna Daharsh (Gretna), midfielder Emily Flowers (Kansas City, Mo.), and defender Dolcie Hanlon (Grand Junction, Colo.). UNK's current 28-player roster features three seniors and 14 sophomores. The NCAA Division II Presidents Council granted an eligibility waiver (i.e. a "free year") for fall sport student-athletes due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

An outside back/forward, Iocca is from Old Bridge, N.J., and stars at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. A two-time team MVP, she had 49 points (15 goals and 19 assists) during the 2017-18 season, helping the Trojans go undefeated. Iocca also is a member of the Aquinas basketball team.

"We are so excited to add Angelina to our already talented 2021 roster. She is a fast, versatile and athletic player with a high soccer IQ. She likes to get forward from the back into the attack to help create goal scoring opportunities," Roberts said.

In the club season Iocca is a member of the New Jersey Olympic Development 2003 team that is ranked third in the state, 10th in the region and 23rd in the nation.

"She is smart on the ball and makes good decisions in when to dribble and when to distribute. Angelina has huge potential to do some great things here at UNK and we can't wait for her to get started," Roberts said.

UNK kicks off its nine-game spring season this Sunday, March 14, at home against Missouri Western State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. The other home dates are March 27 (Northeastern J.C., Colo.), April 3 (Fort Hays State), April 8 (Washburn) and April 16 (NW Missouri State). The postseason then begins April 22 at campus sites.
