Two Decade School Record Falls Friday Night

Kearney, Neb. – Super senior Alex Goracke broke a 23-year-old school-record in the weight throw Friday night at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln.

The two-day meet, hosted by the 'Huskers, runs through Saturday night and brings in top competition from around the country.

Goracke (Giltner) placed fifth in the weight throw, and was the top non-Division I finisher, in a field of 23 thanks to a toss of 66-1.50. That bests the 66-1 two-time All-American Brett Wetton achieved on February 3, 2001. The effort also moves Goracke to sixth in Division II at the moment. The throw came on his fifth attempt; he also had efforts of 64-9.25 and 65-11.75.

Also one day one, Creighton junior Alex Homan was 14th in the pole vault (16-1.25), Kearney redshirt sophomore Lily Novacek was 14th in the weight throw (53-7.50), and Ravenna junior Jack Drahota was ninth in the 60-hurdle prelims (8.18).

A herd of Lopers will also compete at the Fred Beile Classic Saturday at Doane University.
