Small Herd of Lopers Compete in Fort Worth; Home Meet on Saturday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney track and field team sent five throwers to the annual TCU Alumni Invitational this weekend in Fort Worth.

This is UNK's first outdoor competition; the season begins in earnest next Saturday (March 28) with the annual Central Nebraska Challenge at Kearney High.

On Friday night Kearney senior Lily Novacek placed third in the hammer (201-0). One of six non-D1 throwers in the field of 27, her top toss came on her third attempt with Rylee Jenkins of Oklahoma State (206-11) and Kennedy Clarke of Oklahoma (202-10) just in front. Next, Kansas freshman Emily Bainter finished fifth (141-7) out of 25 in the javelin on Saturday. The top non-D1 finisher, her throw ranks fourth in UNK history and places her on the national list.

In the men's javelin Saturday, Kansas senior Rylan Basart was first (219-4), Kansas freshman Brooks Jones came in seventh (181-11) with Kansas redshirt freshman Lakin Getz 11th (172-2). The field consisted of 21 with Basart winning by over three feet. Finally, this is his best toss since the 2024 MIAA Championships (227-7) and ranks him sixth nationally.
