UNK Third in First Spring Tourney

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney junior Juliana Botero Molina fired an 8-over par 152 to tie for second place at the annual Hillcat Classic Tuesday in Owasso, Okla.

This was UNK's first tournament of the spring season. This two-day, six-team event was hosted by Rogers State.

The 63rd-ranked Lopers had rounds of 319 and 324 at the par 72 Baily Ranch G.C. (5,892 yards) to come in third place (643). No. 29 RSU won (614), Cameron (Okla.) was just two strokes back with Sioux Falls, Northwestern Oklahoma State and William Jewell (Mo.) rounding out the field.

Botero Molina (Colombia) carded a 78 on Monday and then was two over on Tuesday. She had two birdies and 12 pars on day two and led the field on par 5-hole scoring (-2 under). Lydia Sitorus of RSU was the medalist (150) with teammate Marelda Ayal also having a 152.

Kansas senior Allison Comer was UNK's second finisher, coming in 12th place (161; 79-82) with Kansas junior Brooke King three strokes back in an 18th place tie (164; 80-84). Completing the Loper top five was Kansas freshman Liz Lyons (T-24th; 168/84-84) and Kansas sophomore Beth Grant (36th; 175/87-88). King was 1-under on par 5-holes and had three birdies with Comer at 20 pars.

Finally, UNK had three individuals in the field in Texas freshman Sofia Wildeman (23rd/167; 84-83), Arizona senior Sophia Coleman (T-24th/168; 83-85) and Bayard senior Avery Mitchell (35th/173; 88-85). Mitchell led the field in par 3-hole scoring (-1 under), Coleman managed 17 pars with all three at two birdies apiece.

The Lopers head to Bolivar, Mo., early next week for the Midwest Intercollegiate.
