Lopers Have Low Scores to Start the 2024-25 Season

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team started its 2024-25 season off in a big way by turning in the third lowest 36-hole score (598) in school history at the annual Central Region Fall Preview.

The Lopers finished fourth out of 17 teams in a two-day event held at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. Southwestern Oklahoma State was the tourney host with the par 72 course measuring an estimated 5,910 yards.

UNK had rounds of 301 and 297 to trail only Augustana (592), Missouri Southern (593) and Henderson State, Ark. (595). The Lopers were second after Tuesday's action and bested four MIAA rivals, six Great American Conf. squads and three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conf. teams.

Showing great balance, only 10 strokes (245-255) separated the Loper lineup. Colombian senior Juliana Botero Molina led the way as she made a push for medalist honors thanks to a 3-under 69 (34-35) on Wednesday. Her career-best round featured four birdies and 13 pars with Henderson's Felisa Sajulga coming in first by a stroke (73-71).

Botero Molina also parred the final four holes to record the program's fifth sub-70 round. Faviola Gonzalez set the Loper standard in the fall of 2019 at Awarii Dunes (67). Finally, Botero Molina's overall score is tied for third best and is just four strokes off the record.

Next, Colombian redshirt junior Sofia Laserna Murra finished 18th with a career-best 150 (76-74) with Kansas sophomore Liz Lyons two shots back in 27th (76-76). Laserna Murra's final nine holes featured eight pars and a birdie with Lyons carding two birdies on the back nine. Finally, rounding out the lineup this week was Kansas senior Brooke King (30th/153; 75-78) and Arizona graduate Sophia Coleman (39th/155; 74-81). Coleman paced the Lopers on Tuesday with King having three birdies overall.

UNK heads to Ogallala next Monday and Tuesday for the "Battle at Bayside." The event co-hosted by Wayne State and the Lopers.
