Solid Scores in Warrensburg; Fall Finale Next Week

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team fired a 54-hole total of 906 to place eighth at the Midwest Classic Tuesday in Warrensburg, Mo.

The two-day, 14-team event was held at the par 70 Mules National G.C./Keith Memorial (5,564 yards). The participants played 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday with the average tournament score being a 78.67.

UNK had rounds of 302, 301 and 303 to place ahead of six MIAA rivals. Host Central Missouri (871) and Arkansas Tech (880) led the field with three others shooting below a 900. The 54-hole score by the Lopers ranks third best in school history.

Kansas junior Claire Berquist (73-74-76) and Minnesota sophomore Calie Dockter (75-75-73) both fired a 223 to tie for 16th and pace the Loper attack; 223 ties for fourth best in Loper lore. Berquist's tourney featured five birdies in round one and 11 pars in round two with Dockter having a birdie and 20 pars on the back nine. Ellen Spigner of Arkansas Tech was the medalist thanks to a 5-under par 205 (68-68-69).

Next, Kansas junior Liz Lyons tied for 25th (227; 77-75-75), Texas junior Sofia Wildeman tied for 40th (233; 77-77-79), Kansas senior Beth Grant tied for 52nd (236; 79-78-77) and Arizona senior Emmie Rhude was 63rd (241; 78-82-81). Both Lyons and Wildeman recorded four birdies over the final two rounds with Grant playing as an individual and having two birdies on the par 3 17th hole (343 yards).

UNK closes out its fall season Oct. 20-21 at the MWSU Regional Preview in St. Joseph.
