Lopers Battle Bluejays in Omaha

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney men's tennis team battled but fell at Creighton, 6-1, Tuesday night in Omaha.

The Bluejays improve to 7-1 while the young Lopers fall to 3-6.

At number three doubles, CU got out to a 3-1 lead and won 6-4. UNK was up 1-0 at one and then trailed by a single point on four different occasions but the 'Jays won, 6-4, to take a 1-0 lead.

Brisdon was aiming for a win at five singles but lost 7-5, 7-5 to freshman Rocky McKenzie with sophomore Tom van den Dungen (Netherlands) losing in three sets at three to junior Zachary Kuo (7-5, 4-6, 1-0; 10-6).  Sophomore Jip Mens (Netherlands) did win in three sets at two (7-6; 7-4, 5-7, 1-0; 10-8) to improve to 8-1 in duals. Finally, freshman Ivan Melnik almost won the first set at one but lost 7-6 (5).

Both Lopers squads return home this weekend to host Southwest Baptist (Friday) and Metro State (Saturday). In the fall, the men slipped past Metro, 4-3, with the women winning as well, 7-0.
