UNK Starts the Spring Facing Top Competition in Texas; Third Round Canceled

Kearney, Neb. – The 41st-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 630 to place 14th at the Southern Invite Monday in Spring, Texas.

The event, featuring 12 of Division II's top 49 teams, was cut short as the final 18 holes were canceled on Tuesday due to weather. Central Oklahoma served as tourney host at the par 71 (5,898 yards) Cypresswood Golf Club.

The most Northern program in a largely Southern field, UNK had rounds of 319 and 311 to come in ahead of Oklahoma Baptist and finish just 13 strokes behind rival UCO. Fourth-ranked Dallas Baptist won (586) with 13th-ranked West Texas A&M second (591).

Colombian senior Juliana Botero Molina came in 47th place (155; 77-78) with three other Lopers between 52nd and 62nd. Botero had a birdie in round two and 13 pars in round one. A stroke behind her was Kansas sophomore Liz Lyons (79-77) with Arizona graduate Sophia Coleman four shots back (80-79). Lyons had birdies on two par 4 holes and Coleman managed one birdie and carded eight pars on the back nine in round two.

Sixteenth-ranked Arnie Taguines of Texas-Tyler was the medalist thanks to a 1-under 141 (73-68). Finally, Arizona junior Emmie Rhude came in 62nd (160; 83-77) with Minnesota freshman Calie Dockter 80th (178; 93-85).
