UNK Finishes Third in Warrensburg; Second Five Beat Five D2's

Kearney, Neb. – The 53rd-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 643 to place third at the annual Midwest Intercollegiate Tuesday in Warrensburg, Mo.

The 13-team event also featured a Loper "B" team with Central Missouri hosting at the par 70 Mules National G.C. (5,564 yards).

The Lopers had rounds of 321 and 322 to trail only the 19th-ranked Jennies (615) and the 11th-ranked team in the junior college ranks, Dodge City C.C. (641). UNK's next five carded a 677 (336-341) to beat five varsity D2 squads and juco power Iowa Western C.C. 

Colombian senior Juliana Botero Molina was in contention for medalist honors until the very end and finished with a 14-over 154 (74-80) to place third. Ines Vandaele of Missouri Western State (152) and DCC's Ellen Wilson (153) were just ahead with her tourney including a birdie and 22 pars.

Next, Kansas sophomore Claire Berquist tied for eighth (161; 82-79) and Arizona senior Sophia Coleman tied for 11th (163; 80-83). Berquist had a birdie each day with Coleman managing two over a three-hole stretch on Monday. Rounding out the varsity five this were Minnesota freshman Calie Dockter (86-81) and Kansas sophomore Liz Lyons (85-82) who both shot a 167 to tie for 22nd.

Colombian redshirt junior Sofia Laserna Murra (87-81) and Texas sophomore Sofia Wildeman (81-87) paced the "B" team by both firing a 168 to tie for 27th.

UNK is now off until an April 7 trip to Omaha for the "Stampede on the Creek" with a "B" team set to play in Concordia's annual spring event Mar. 31-Apr. 1 at Lincoln.
