Record Set as UNK Competes at Large WU & PSU Meets

Kearney, Neb. – The women's distance medley relay team set a school-record to lead Nebraska Kearney this weekend at the Ichabod Invitational and the Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic in Kansas.

The DMR squad ran Friday at Pitt and were the only Lopers to attend that meet. Up the road in Topeka, the large Washburn invite began Friday and ran until Saturday night.

York junior Brynn Hirschfeld, Sidney sophomore Talissa Tanquary, Kansas junior Charis Robinson and McCool Junction Kassidy Stuckey recorded a 11:50.00 to place third in a tough field and best the previous Loper standard of 11:53.01 set at last year's MIAA Championships. The new record places UNK 22nd nationally and third in the league.

Stuckey then ran again Saturday in Topeka, finishing third in the 3,000 with the program's third best time (9:52.07). Right behind her in fourth was Central City senior Ella Buhlke (career-best 9:59.17). Next, Robinson was runner up in the mile (4:58.59), Kearney senior Lily Novacek won the weight throw (59-10.50), and Stamford senior Brianna Russell was sixth in the high jump (5-5.25).

On the men's side, Omaha senior Nick Abdalla was the 5,000 runner up (14:30.77), Sidney senior Mitchell Deer (3rd/48.07) and Bennington sophomore Carter Diamond (10th/48.88) were in the 400 Top 10 with St. Paul senior Conner Wells third in the 800 (1:50.04). Finally on the track Lincoln sophomore Carter Hohlen now has UNK's fourth best time in the 3,000 (8:18.63) with North Platte freshman Jaxon Knisley up to fourth in the 60 hurdles (8.09).

In the field, Ord sophomore Sam Boettcher was third in the weight (career-beset 60-10.50), Gretna senior Clayton Kelly finished fourth in the triple jump (48-2) and Kearney freshman Luke Brachle cleared 6-11.75 to be third in the high jump.

The Loper and Nebraska Tune Ups are next Friday.
