Lopers Take Care of the Bulldogs & Mustangs; Three More Duals this Week

Keanrey, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney men's team beat McPherson (Kan.) College, 7-0, and Morningside (Ia.) University, 5-2, this weekend at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

The Loper women were also in action, but their duals were exhibitions vs. MU and Division III Gustavus (Minn.) Adolphus.

The UNK men (3-0) rolled past the MC Bulldogs on Saturday as they won at one and three doubles and swept singles. Junior Andy Brisdon (U.K.) won at one doubles (-2) and singles (-4, -2); he beat the NAIA's 31st-ranked single player in Arthur Nardy for his singles victory. His doubles partner, sophomore Ivan Melnik (Germany), worked hard to win his number two singles match (4-6, -2, 10-3).

Things were tougher on Sunday night against a Mustangs squad (6-2) ranked 12th in the NAIA. UNK swept doubles and took four of the six singles matches. Brisdon and Melnik had little trouble with the NAIA's 16th ranked pair (-2) of Menendez Hervella/Diaz with Brisdon winning at one singles (3-, -6; 7-4) as well. That came over 30th-ranked Mendenez Hervella. Finally, newcomers Yarona Morule (South Africa) and Ilan Fuentes (France) won in the fourth and sixth spots, respectively.

UNK is at Creighton Thursday morning before hosting Pratt (Kan.) C.C. on Friday and welcoming in Colorado Mesa Saturday. The women will battle CMU that day as week.
