UNK Gets Two More Home Wins; Georgia Trip Up Next

Keanrey, Neb. – The nationally-ranked Nebraska Kearney tennis teams had little trouble at home this weekend in beating Minnesota State and Nebraska Wesleyan.

The 34th-ranked women (4-3) tallied the first four points of the dual to beat the Mavericks, 4-3, while the 18th-ranked men (8-2) went outside on Sunday to blank the Prairie Wolves, 7-0. A dual with Division I Nebraska Omaha was postponed and will be made up in April.

On Saturday night at the Grundy Tennis Center, the Lopers took the doubles point by winning 6-4 at both one and three. Senior Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius), freshman Augustina Abdo (Ecuado) and sophomore Jasmine Ben Aba (Tunisia) then won in straight sets at three, six and five to secure things. Mankato swept four and then won in three sets at both one and two to complete the scoring.

Things were easier for the Loper men who've now won five in a row. While NWU won at three doubles, UNK allowed just four combined points in the other two matches to go ahead 1-0. They then swept each singles match with the Wolves not scoring more than two points in any set. Freshman Yarona Morule (South Africia) closed the dual at five (-1, -2) with senior Alex Jaulin (Australia) rolling at two (-1, -2).

UNK heads to Georgia for "Spring Break" starting on March 16.
