Ranaivo Picks Up Region Award

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney's Narindra Ranaivo has been named the Central Region Women's Senior Player of the Year by the Intercolleigate Tennis Association (ITA).

The ITA annually announces a series of regional and national awards that include Coach of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year, Player to Watch and the top Senior and Newcomer. The awards given have changed throughout the years with records dating back to 2001.

Ranaivo (Madagascar), the winningest player in UNK women's history, joins Kristen Messbarger (2010) as Lopers to have earned this award.

Heading into the "Swee 16" Wednesday in Florida, Ranaivo is 45-14 on the year that includes a 17-5 singles dual record and an 18-6 doubles dual mark with sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe). She is 16-3 at number two singles with all 24 doubles matches coming in the top spot. Finally, Ranaivo and Midzi are currently ranked 17th
nationally.

In her career, the four-year starter has amassed 178 wins that included a school-best 90 in singles and a school-record 88 in doubles. National award winners are announced on Tuesday, May 20.

The 22nd-ranked Lopers (20-5) face 21st-ranked Azusa Pacific (20-4) at 11 a.m. Central time Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Cougars have the West Region's Coach, Assistant Coach and Rookie (Stina Larsson) of the Year.
