In 17 years as Head football coach from 1955 to 1971, Al Zikmund’s teams amassed a 121-31-3 record. His 1956, 1958 and 1967 teams were undefeated and his 1963 team played in the NAIA playoffs against Prairie View, Texas. Nine of his players were NAIA All-Americans. Zikmund was Kearney State athletic director from 1971 until his retirement in 1987. He is a member of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and the Helms Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame.
