Dennis Dukesherer was the first Nebraska athlete to pole-vault 15-0, a feat accomplished in 1967 the year he was national NAIA champion with a vault of 15-5 ¾. He was NAIA All-American four years and was conference champion all four years. Dukesherer placed in the long jump, triple jump and high hurdles in the conference championships. He held the Foster Field and Cushing Coliseum records and had a career best vault of 15-7 ½.
