Doug Martin was a four-year letter winner in football and track from 1962 to 1966. He was a successful high school track and cross country coach and has officiated football and basketball for nearly 40 years. As an athlete, Martin was a three year starter on the football team at defensive back. He was a member of the 1963 team that played Prairie View in the NAIA national semi-final playoffs. He also held the Antelope record in punt return average for 25 years. Martin was a member of the mile relay team that finished fourth in 1963. While teaching and coaching at North Platte, he served as president of the Nebraska Coaches Association. As an official, Martin refereed nine state high school football championship games and nine state championship basketball games. In his 40 years of officiating, he also worked a wide variety of college football and basketball games.
