John Makovicka is one of the great running backs in Antelope history. A four-year letterman, Makovicka led the nation in scoring in 1970 with 126 points, a Kearney State record. He also earned All-American honors. His other records include most touchdowns in a season, 21; most career touchdowns, 27; and most yards rushing in a season, 1,483. Makovicka was a four-year baseball letterman and he lettered in track as a hurdler. He was State College Athlete of the Year in 1971.
