Dave Burke was a four-year starter as a tailback on the Loper football team from 1973 to 1976. He finished his career as the all-time leading rusher with 2,976 yards. Burke led the team in rushing and scoring three of his four years and had the best individual game all four years. As a senior he rushed for 225 yards against Washburn, fifth on the all-time list. Burke earned NAIA All-District, All Nebraska College and Omaha World-Herald All State honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. As a senior, he was an honorable mention NAIA All-American and had a tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals.
