Susan Johnson Hood was a two-time All-American softball pitcher who compiled an 85-20 career mark. As a junior in 1990, she led the Lopers to the NAIA National Championship, was an All-American, and Academic All-American and MVP of the national tournament where she won five games and gave up three earned runs. For the season, her record was 30-4. Her sophomore year, Hood earned All-American honors and threw every pitch at the NAIA National Championships where the Lopers finished second. Her senior year, she compiled a 19-4 record and was named Academic All-American for the second time. Hood was the first UNK athlete to receive a NCAA post-graduate scholarship.
