Donna Spickelmier-Vallin captured five national championships in track and cross country from 1986 to 1990. She won two outdoor titles, the 1500 meter and the 3000 meter races. Indoor, she was a member of the winning distance medley relay race team twice. She won the mile in 1987. She also earned three other All-American honors in track. Spickelmier-Vallin was a three-time All-American in cross country. In 1986, she was fifth and in 1988 she finished third, the highest finish ever for a Loper woman athlete. Spickelmier-Vallin set school records in the indoor mile and two-mile and the outdoor 800, 1500, 3000, and 5000 meter events.
