Dr. L.R. Smith has provided service to Loper sports by serving as director of athletic medicine and team physician for 36 years. Dr. Smith was co-founder of the first athletic booster club, Loper Supporters, and served as president of that group from 1963 to 1963. In 1991, the athletic training room was named for Dr. Smith for his years of service in creating the sports medicine program and his contributions to the training room.
