LaNell Cox starred in basketball and softball for the Lopers during her career from 1983 to 1987. She was the basketball team’s leading scorer her junior and senior year averaging more than 16 points. She earned all-conference honors both years. She led the team to the national NAIA tournament her senior year where the team was beaten in overtime by champion Southwestern Oklahoma. Cox played third base on the NAIA National Championship softball team of 1987. During her four-year career in softball, she was all-conference and all-district all four years.
