Gary Welton was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track 1958-1960. A three-year starter at tight end for Coach Al Zikmund, Welton capped his career by being selected to receive the Carriker Award given to the outstanding lineman in Nebraska College Conference.  He was team co-captain as a senior in 1960. Welton also lettered in track three years, throwing the javelin and running sprints and hurdles. In basketball, he lettered one year as a forward.
