Merle Trail was a four-year letterman in football from 1920 to 1931. He capped his career by being the first Kearney State player chosen as a college level All-American. He was named to the squad as tackle. He coached at Bladen, St. Edward and Central City for 10 years before moving to Glendale, California where he taught and coached from 1942 to 1972.
