She set school records in her specialties, the 200 and 400 including a 56.07 indoor mark and a 55.52 outdoor time in the 400. The two-time team co-captain competed in four AIAW national meets, including the first in 1976, running on the third place 400 meter relay team and fifth place mile relay team that competed against all colleges and universities. In addition to her personal records, Nelson was a member of five school record relay teams.
