Mitch Johnson, a standout in football and baseball, capped his football career by earning Kodak/AFCA All-American honors as a senior leading the team with 18 career interceptions from 1973 to 1976. He was also the leading punt returner as a junior and senior. On the baseball Johnson earned honorable mention All-American his senior year after batting .429. He was selected Nebraska College Athlete of the Year in 1977.
