Fred Fulmer joined the Kearney State staff in 1922 as a head coach of all athletic teams.

He was credited with coaching the first track team in 1922 and the first cross-country team in 1928. He coached the 1922 to 1929 football teams to a 28-31-9 record. He coached the Antelope Basketball team from 1923 to 1930 and the 1934-35 teams to a 96-52 record. Fulmer also coached track from 1922 to 1930 and in1935.
