Ed Kruml was a key player on the 1963 football team coached by Al Zikmund that reached the number three ranking in the NAIA and hosted the first national playoff game in school history.  That team compiled a 9-0 regular season mark and played Prairie View A&M of Texas in the four-team national playoff. Kruml was a four-year letterman at center and capped his career by being named to the All-American first team NCC in 1965. He was Nebraska College Conference all-conference three times.
